If you had asked me 48 hours ago if I would ever be a part of the Facebook community, I would have laughed and said an emphatic “No!” I mean, why would I become a part of something that my college-age sister and all of her friends are a part of? I already get grief from her about my being “old,” so why would I try and be younger?
Fast-forward 24 hours…. I receive 2 IMs from former co-workers asking me if I’m on Facebook. Again, an emphatic “no” came from my mouth. Then, yesterday afternoon I decided to see what all the fuss was about. I know my sister is a religious member of the community and I know it’s brought college students together in an interesting way. (I also know that many employers are starting to use it as a part of the selection process when deciding upon candidates – lots of college students have stuff on Facebook that I’m guessing they wouldn’t want their potential employers to see.)
I joined. And 24 hours later, I’m hooked. Maybe it’s because it’s an instant link to all of my friends in Indianapolis at my former agency. Maybe it’s because it’s new and a novelty to me. Who knows. But I’m liking it. I like to feel connected. Especially when it’s a one-stop shop of sorts for keeping in touch with people. I really like it.
So, like this blog, I’m going to try and keep up with Facebook. I’m stumbling through it like a complete nerd, I know, but it’s fun.
I'm off to check Facebook,
Ash
